The 2007 results for the state's STAR program, which measures the academic achievement of students in grades two through 11, are in. And though the test scores are rising or at least holding steady, there's still a huge achievement gap - between whites and blacks, and between whites and Hispanics.

What is especially noteworthy is that, for the first time, state Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell has bucked the norm and called it a "racial achievement gap."
