5:52 P.M.: Brown, Garamendi Make an Impression On 18-Year-Old From Redlands

Summary


Hello all! I am so very excited! Today was another day where I was able to converse with my party fellows. I was also privileged enough to be able to hear two very invigorating speakers. State Attorney General Jerry Brown and Lt. Gov. John Garamendi are two very interesting gentlemen and I would love to hear them speak again. I agreed with much of what they said and their stances on many issues. I really enjoyed myself and it seemed every one else in the exhibit hall enjoyed themselves as well.

The first that I heard speak was Brown. He spoke on many subjects but mainly the stressed prison system and the underfunded education system. I was quite surprised when he spoke of a statistic I was unfamiliar with. Brown said that the California prison system lets out thousands of inmates a day but incarcerates the same number of people a day; the prison intake is equal to it's output. I found that after a little research that it was true. I find that a little odd. Isn't the point of getting out prison to make a better life for yourself after you've done the time?
