Unfortunately, rules or no rules, not every elected official takes the ideals of public service to heart. That's why we need a new law that would make it illegal for an elected official who gets voted or termed out of office to file and collect unemployment benefits.
The bill, as proposed by state Bob Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga, and Sen. Gloria Romero, D-Los Angeles, is based on the case of former Rosemead City Councilman John Nunez.
