On this date in 1957, The Sun reported that Harry M. Right, a former Upland City Council member and Upland representative of the Pacific Electric Co., came back with photographs and stories of his unusual landing of a 179 -pound marlin caught off Catalina Island.

While trolling for swordfish about eight miles off Catalina, the double albacore hook Wright was using had suddenly been struck by the marlin's sword-like bill. Upon the marlin's capture, it was found that no hook actually penetrated the fish's flesh.
