SKYFOREST - When Alex Stathis bought the 640-square-foot, one- bedroom home perched high above City Creek for $20,000 in 1978, he had no idea it would become a symbol of energy efficiency and environmental friendliness.

But when Stathis decided to have the home remodeled three years ago, it became just that - a much larger undertaking that soon evolved into an endeavor not only to build his dream home, but the county's first certified "green home" as well.
