REDLANDS - Clowning around literally helped Patrick Cummings prepare himself for the demanding conditions of being a cameraman for the Discovery Channel's top-rated show, "Deadliest Catch."

Cummings, 37, grew up in Highland and Redlands, and from 1983 to 1987 performed as a clown and aerialist for the Redlands Y Circus. He subsequently went on to travel the country by train with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, performing as a clown for two years.
