San Bernardino County wants to set the record straight on the issue of global warming and the county's recently adopted general plan update (re: "State targets county in suit," by Andrew Silva, April 14).
The plan does, in fact, address concerns about global warming by including numerous policies that help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including policies to encourage transit and smart growth and economic development policies to create jobs near housing and thus reduce commutes. The county did this despite the fact that there are currently no guidelines from the state or federal governments specifying how global warming should be addressed in local government planning documents. Assembly Bill 32, the much heralded global warming law, leaves local regulations up to the California Air Resources Board, which hasn't yet developed measures for counties and cities to follow.See the full content of this document
