The Aug. 3 story "SB council settles suit for $7,500" about the city of San Bernardino's legal settlement with an independent investigator hired to review policies and conduct in the Police Department did not completely report investigator William Schneid's reaction to the settlement.
"I am satisfied with the arbitrator's findings," Schneid said in a prepared statement. "Both the city and my attorneys approved the choice of arbitrator. (City Attorney Jim) Penman apparently didn't agree with the arbitrator's findings and stated that he would ignore the findings and go to trial. The city is well aware if I prevailed, at trial, it would be highly unlikely that I could recover my attorney fees where the city enjoys a staff of paid attorneys and a bottomless budget.
