Cardinal Roger Mahony's recent advice to Catholics to disregard any anti-illegal-immigration laws ("Catholics shaping immigrant debate,'' Beyond Borders, by the Associated Press, March 4) confuses me as a 79-year-old Catholic.
As a church cardinal, his seminary training must have included intensive instructions on basic morals and ethics of the Church. These include the need for church members to do the good things, avoid the bad things and follow church commandments.
