San Bernardino Could Use Stimulus Funds to Offset Possible Gas Tax Grab

SAN BERNARDINO - City officials say they will be able to rely on stimulus dollars to pay for road maintenance if Sacramento takes gas tax revenues that would otherwise go into the city's budget.

San Bernardino officials estimate that gas taxes would bring in about $3 million for city projects during the fiscal year that begins July 1. If California legislators accept a proposal to grab those dollars in an attempt to balance the state's budget, that money could be partially offset with money that would pass through a local transportation agency.
