In an international search for musical talent, only 17 people were chosen to go to London to conduct an orchestra composed of some of the world's finest musicians. Manuel Aybar of San Bernardino, was one of just three Americans selected to participate.

After years of soul-searching and exploring the world, Aybar returned to San Bernardino to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional conductor. And this summer has brought him closer than ever to fulfilling that dream.

Aybar submitted a resume, several letters of reference, and a videotape of himself conducting an orchestra to the directors of the event. He did not expect to get in, but said he applied anyway, thinking, "This will be a good way to build character."
