Summary
I have a couple of points to address regarding some recent items in The Sun. The first thing I'd like to speak to is in regard to a recent column written by Mr. Wes Hughes in which he wrote at length about several Medal of Honor recipients being in our area.
Because Mr. Hughes quite often refers to his military service in his columns, I was somewhat shocked by his referring to these national heroes as "Medal of Honor winners." I would have thought someone with a military background would know the difference between "winning" the MOH and "receiving" it. Bluntly speaking, one does not "win" that precious medal, it is "awarded" to them. It is not a contest. Perhaps his choice of verbiage is just a "bug-a-boo" on my part, but it does bother me when someone makes reference to "winning" the Medal of Honor because it seems to lessen the import of it.See the full content of this document
